In conjunction with the 50th anniversary of Stonewall riots, which sparked the start of the modern gay rights movement, June 2019 also brought World Pride to New York City.
To show our support for the LGBTQ+ community and pride festivities, we partnered with the It Gets Better Project, a non-profit organization with resources and programming that focus on LGBTQ+ youth and, specifically, empowering young people during their own coming out processes.
As they prepared for a series of youth and ages 21+ pride events at The Standard, East Village we came on-board to design custom artwork for the backdrop of the photo booth. The artwork combines the colors of the pride flag with messaging that honors World Pride, which is hosted by a new city around the globe every few years. The next World Pride event is set to take place in Copenhagen in 2021.
“Pride is a kaleidoscope of compassion, activism, acceptance, reflection, visibility and much more, so we knew if we took part in World Pride, we had to combine as many of these aspects in a creative and impactful way,” says Brandi Parker, Head of Realization at Pearlfisher. “Getting the chance to lend our talents to It Gets Better, which makes a significant difference in the queer community all around the world, felt like the perfect match – we understand the power in pride and how it can empower you creatively, socially, personally and beyond.”
